CBD Oil: How & Why Would You Use It?

We are pleased to announce that as of last week, the state of Ohio has legalized public distribution of CBD oil. We’ve been patiently (actually impatiently) awaiting this, as there have been so many helped by this incredible compound for various and widespread conditions. So we’re happy to be providing it to you now!

But what is it? And should you be worried about taking it?

To keep it brief, cannabidiol (CBD) is the second most abundant component of the cannabis sativaplant. It’s just one of hundreds of cannabinoids found in hemp and cannabis. Cannabinoids interact with receptor sites within the Endocannabinoid System (ECS) inside our bodies to induce an effect. CBD is the NON-psychoactive cannabinoid of the plant, meaning you won’t experience the “high” associated with the tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) component of the plant. THC is the component one would associate with being a problem with certain drug tests.

5 Benefits of CBD Oil

  1. Anti-inflammatory - Given virtually all disease states and conditions have an inflammatory component, CBD is a fantastic option. It has been shown to inhibit NLRP3. Inflammasome similar to fasting and ketogenic diets. It’s PACKED with extremely powerful anti-inflammatory properties that can modulate the immune response, calm inflammation of the joints, muscles, tendons, ligaments, gut and more. Also, with the rise of cognitive decline, namely dementia and Alzheimer’s, CBD also boasts impressive neuro-protective effects.

  2. Analgesic - Why would you want to pop a bunch of Advil, Aleve, Tylenol, etc. when those drugs have SERIOUS consequences when taken chronically. CBD has virtually no side effects, ESPECIALLY no toxic effects on our liver, stomach, and other organs. Check this out!

  3. Anti-Anxiety - With the mental health epidemic we are experiencing, this is a POWERFUL property of CBD. As a chiropractic physician, anxiety and insomnia are becoming two of the most common complaints I see. And they are very correlated with each other, clinically. Making CBD a part of your anti-anxiety or sleep regimen is very much worth a try. Check this study out.

  4. Heart Healthy - There are studies out there demonstrating that CBD is able to help prevent heart attacks, strokes, and coronary artery disease. CBD is also anti-spasmodic and can help vessles relax to improve blood flow.

  5. Anti-Diabetic - Mainly due to its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects, CBD can demonstrate anti-diabetic effects by activating the ECS. This particular study shows some possible mechanisms.

How to Use CBD Oil

  1. Topically - This is extremely powerful. We provide creams and rollers and several patients are finding that topical CBD is very fast-acting and effective in treating every day joint and muscle pain. Some have even found benefit for headaches and TMJ pain as well.

  2. Tincture - Taken sublingually, CBD tinctures are rapidly absorbed through the oral mucosa and can have systemic analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects.

  3. Powder - Much like tinctures, CBD powders offer a tasteless, easy alternative to get the benefits of tinctures. Powders can be used in beverages (I like to put it in my coffee), smoothies, baked goods, etc.

  4. Capsules - I’ve not been much of a fan of CBD capsules given some studies don’t show great absorption through the GI tract, but that changed with VESISORB technology. It greatly enhances the absorption and effectiveness of CBD. We now carry this in the office, and personally, we have gotten good results with it.

So there you have it. Give us a call or come check out some of the different CBD products we currently have in stock. Looking forward to continuing to serve our community!
